How do we do it?

Our Clinical Experts All our material is authored by inter-professional care teams of clinical experts. These are the nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, technicians (and more) who work together to provide you with the best care for you and your family.

Evidence Our clinical experts author our patient information resources to reflect the latest scientific evidence, the reality of current practice, best practice, and the voiced information needs of patients and their families.

Pedagogy and Pictures Using what we know about how people learn best, our health education experts and medical illustrators translate and transform these messages into images with just enough, clear and understandable text. Integrated within this approach (and all our patient education material) are principles and theoretical frameworks for health literacy and learning.

Our Patients Our patients are our ultimate quality assurance test. We test all our patient materials with real patients and their families to make sure they are clear, appropriate and addressing actual information needs.

The PEO uses learning theory, as well as health literacy and plain language principles and guidelines, to develop evidence-based material with inter-professional teams. Our health education experts and medical illustrators work with these teams and their patients to transform their key teaching messages into clear and understandable resources.
